Friday night The Legendary Roots crew came to Richmond and played a free show for the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown, VA. Halfway through the performance, ?uestlove mentioned that they almost cancelled the show because of the ties between the early Jamestown settlement and the beginning of slavery over 400 years ago (Brother ?uestion sported a tshirt which read in big letters "TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT JAMESTOWN"). It was a good thing they didn't cancel because the show was amazing. I've probably seen them play about five times before and this was definitely one of the best. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing them live, you should consider checking them out next time they come around your way. These guys tour more than any other hip-hop out there and rarely dissapoint. Never a dull moment, they keep a nice pace throughout the performance.
The highlights of the show were definitely the medley, where they drop old and new songs back to back like Tical, Throw Some D's, Shimmy Shimmy Ya, and Sexy Back and this Bob Dylan cover of Masters of War by Go Get A Late Pass aka Quest, Kirk Douglas, and Tuba Gooding Jr. Check it out:
(this was not recorded by me, I youtubed it)
